The Senegalese-born American musical star, Akon says he regrets the incident at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville which abruptly ended Tuesday’s musical extravaganza.

In a release issued Wednesday, Cellcom quotes AKON as regretting the situation and has promised to return to Liberia in the future to stage a “musical jamboree”.

Cellcom explained that much planning, organization and security had gone into the AKON SHOW which started off well without a single incident of disturbance or interruption until the MEGA STAR, now AKON SLEWION, characteristic of his style of performance decided he wanted the jubilant crowd that were seated around the stadium to come closer to him on the pitch where the stage had been erected.

The company indicated that from this well intentional but mis-calculated outburst of AKON, which undermined the security arrangement at the stadium, fans began pouring onto scaffolds that held the lightings for illuminating the stage as pedestals; while others attempted to jump onto the stage attempting to party with the MEGA star, thus causing an interruption in AKON’s performance.

In a matter of minutes, according to the release, one of the lighting scaffolds collapsed; no one got injured as it was a high voltage installation.

Cellcom says this caused an immediate power outage at the stage and the performance was interrupted.

Realizing the volatility of the situation, Cellcom added that the security moved in swiftly and ushered AKON out of the stadium.
