My man Daryl reported on a publishing of the 50 Highest Paid Football (Soccer) players in the world by a Portuguese Financial website. Please note that these listings are in Euros (€) as of March 14th 2008; it takes $1.56 to buy one (1) Euro (€) to help with your $USD conversions. Digging a little deeper reveals that these are not figures of income for a 12 month period. Rather; it is the pay out of their contract over a time period. It may take a player six years to realize the millions of Euros stated.
As this relates to the African Cup of Nations; there are three prominent African nationals on the list. Didier Drogba for La Côte D’Ivoire; Michael Essien for Ghana and Samuel Eto’o for Cameroon. You may see other African names there but it must be noted that their allegiance is to another country such Sidney Govou who was born in France but of Benínois descent.
