EMC - The Rap group that proves why we like Hip Hop music

What happens when you put four emcees that shined on their own into one, functioning unit? You form a supergroup!. Not a ’super’star group; just a supergroup. EMC is comprised of four spectacular lyricists: the Midwest phenom Stricklin, the widely respected Lyricist Lounge duo Punchline & Wordsworth, and the legendary Brooklyn-bred Juice Crew member, Masta Ace. What makes this group so special is that it was basically formed at the request of the fans.
EMC performed with the them of launching their new album; ‘The Show’ at the Knitting Factory in lower Manhattan, New York City on March 25th.
DJ Flo Rida of Brooklyn set off the tone on the turntables via Serato Scratch and a MacBook Pro. He hesitantly asked if the crowd remembered the ‘Golden years of Rap’. In my mind; I calculated the period to be from 1986 - 1995. We he jarred many memories by dropping jewels such as ‘Brand Nubian - ‘All for One’; A Tribe Called Quest - ‘Can I Kick it’ and Smith and Wessun - ‘Sound Boy Burriel’.
DJ Mr. Cee of Big Daddy Kane and NYC Hot 97 fame did the honors to introduce EMC. Masta Ace took the stage first. Now Masta Ace has a catalog of five albums. This is enough to hold a show down by himself. He rolled through tracks from albums such as: “Take A Look Around”; “Slaughterhouse”: Sittin’ On Chrome”; “Disposable Arts” & “Long Hot Summer”. Stricklin joined him for some assistance on some of the tracks from “Disposable Arts” and “Long Hot Summer”.
BuckShot later joined Ace for a round of the classic Brooklyn anthem ‘Crooklyn Dodgers. The best part was when Craig G joined Ace for a round of Cold Chillin’ ‘Marley Marl’s ‘The Symphony’. Ahhh! 1988 was a damn good year! Finally . Mecca (Butterfly) (LadyBug) of Digable Planets fame joined the EMC crew on the title track called ‘The Show’. She was a little shaky and dull on the hook but the four emcees amped the crowd up.
After the performance; the EMC crew walked through the audience when the lights came on for a ‘meet and greet’ with the fans. I had no choice but to go buy the compact Disc. It was a good call; because not one track was wack as I played it in my car on the war home.
Peace!
