Is PUMA a monopoly?
By Rab Bakari • Jan 20th, 2008 • Category: African Cup of Nations GHANA 2008
PUMA’s strong brand identity with the excitement and passion of African football. Namibia (Brave Warriors) is the latest African national team to the long list of PUMA-sponsored teams Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt, Tunisia, Senegal, Togo, Morocco, Mozambique, Angola and Botswana, puts PUMA squarely at the forefront of African football for the 2008 African Cup of Nationsand the build-up to the 2010 World Cup. It totally bites a rat’s ass when I walk into a PUMA store in the States and CANNOT find any…any whatsoever African National team football jersey! I nearly lost it a well-known PUMA store in the SOHO shopping section of New York City. The retail sales people did not have a clue to what the hell I was talking about! Sad, sad, sad! I feel the cats in the UK and probably the rest of the EU fare better than in the ‘Great’ ol’ US of Ehhh! Once again..World Soccer Shop will get my hard-earned US $$$ (Which I heard..was going down in flames compared to other currencies). sometimes they don’t even have the PUMA jerseys!
You see..I am a Pan-Africanist..although my allegiance in this tourney is to the Black Stars of Ghana; I would gladly wear a jersey from Angola or Côte D’Ivoire. If only I can get my hands on an authentic; ‘It be Ge’ jersey!
