Departure!

Well…it was a hectic today in preparing to leave for Accra. Although I had packed my clothes for the trip; I had not sorted out all the electronic equipment I would need to do this multimedia thing. I always seem to forget one plug or adapter. I tallied up all my Firewire; USB; ethernet; Phono jack audio cables; AC plug adapters; miniDV cassettes etc. I also had some loose family biz to tie up also. Not only that. People still wanted me to meet with them. I had to explain that JFK was far from where they wanted to meet.Traffic was gnarly as expected in NYC. I did make it in time to check in my two suitcases, each which were under the 50 pounds limit enforced by Delta Airlines. One pound over would have cost $125 extra! My carry-on contained all the goodies that would make my 9 and a half hour direct flight to Accra comfortable. Security checks were a breeze and the wait to board was not too boring. I’m a tech geek but I did not try to use my Apple Powerbook to log on to a wireless service. Nor did I watch a movie. I merely pulled out my 80 GB 5th gen iPod with the black Shure E2C headphones and called up a Leo Laporte Podcast about the on-going MacWorld in San Francisco. I like to do more than one thing at a time..so I flipped my Treo 650 to browse my Google Reader account so I could glance at the latest feeds that I am subscribed to. The taxi to take off at JFK is a wait in itself. JFK is a busy airport. I saw a looooong line of planes ahead of us trying to use the same runway. My trusty iPod was about to work harder! Take off! @ dusk in New york City. See my little clip of the taxi with the Empire State Building in the background. Surprisingly; I choose to sleep immediately because I knew I would hit the ground running once in Accra. I did snack on peanuts and gulp beverages. I ate the dinner also. I remember not liking it, but I had to eat something. My ipod held out fine for the 9hrs and 5 minutes of flight. Not bad for a 2 year old iPod. I never cracked opened my Apple Powerbook.
